This satellite event was first presented to Festival Director,
Jose Elias by a fellow percussionist and friend Lazaro Franco.
Mr. Franco is one of the original drummers of the legendary
Samba School Unidos Do Salguiero in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
The idea was simple, create an event that showcases the global drumming
community in a relaxed and informal atmosphere for people of all nationalities
to enjoy. In the spirit of bringing Mr. Franco’s vision to life,
Community Arts and Culture along with Transit Lounge present the Festival of
the Drum, a one night only event featuring a variety of percussion driven acts.

This event is made possible with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs,
The Cultural affairs Council, the Mayor, and the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners,

7th Circuit Productions, Moksha Family, 88.9 FM WDNA, Transit Lounge,
The North Beach Band Shell Trust, the City of Miami Beach, and Atlantic Broadband.
